To Be, or Not To Be

“The phenomenon
is nothing but
a normal process of growth.”
One morning,
thousands of husks were found
on the trees, in the city.
It is an external skeleton
and it needs to be discarded.

Whether ’tis nobler to sustain
a thick skin
than to be no more?
Children play with garments —
hung up, abandoned, exchanged,
they are but casings.
Kids don’t care,
they deconstruct facades
and run naked, free, and joyful.
Nobler is to Be
with no thickness:
fearless gentleness.
Attacking
with one’s own carcass
is intimidation.
Keeping distant
unbelonging appearances
is arrival.
Hanging up the suit,
lowering the guard
is to rise in Love.
One morning,
the truth revealed itself.
Nobler is not clothing it.

Certa manhã,
milhares de cascas foram encontradas
nas árvores da cidade.
O esqueleto é externo ao corpo,
precisa ser descartado.
(“Ser ou não ser, eis a questão.”)
Será mais nobre sustentar
a pele espessa
do que não ser mais?
Crianças brincam com roupas —
penduradas, largadas, trocadas,
são nada mais que invólucros.
Não se importam,
desconstroem fachadas
e correm nuas, livres e risonhas.
Mais nobre é Ser
sem espessuras,
suavidade sem temor.
Atacar
com a própria carcaça
é intimidação.
Deixar distante
aparências impertencentes
é aproximação.
Pendurar o traje,
baixar a guarda
é erguer-se em Amor.
Certa manhã,
a verdade revelou-se.
Mais nobre é não vesti-la.
